Jennifer Lawrence Says Speaking About Trump Would ‘Intensify Divisions’ That’s Ripping the Nation Apart
Lawrence has expressed that she no longer feels appropriate to speak out regarding the Trump administration, fearing it could worsen unhelpful debate and further divisions across the country.
‘I Question the Usefulness’, Notes Jennifer Lawrence
Speaking with media, Lawrence commented, “During the first Trump administration, I thought I was moving hastily in a panicked state. But experience has shown, election after election, celebrities fail to influence in any way on who people vote for.”
Lawrence added, “What’s the point? I’m just expressing personal views on a matter that’s going to add fuel to a fire that’s ripping the nation apart.”
Changing Allegiances
Lawrence has previously been open about supporting right and leftwing presidential nominees in past elections. Brought up by a right-leaning family in her home state, she voted for the Republican nominee in the 2008 election prior to switching to the Democratic party and revealing she realized during Obama’s administration that supporting the GOP was opposing her individual liberties as a female citizen.
Past Statements
Several years ago, she remarked that Trump winning the presidency would be “the end of the world” and endorsed the Democratic candidate in the 2020 election. In the latest campaign, she gave her endorsement to the Democratic nominee, “because I believe she’s a strong contender and I am confident that she will take all necessary steps to safeguard abortion access.”
Industry Position
The star was supported by many in the entertainment industry in her disapproval of Trump as a candidate for re-election, but the lack of leverage public figures have over the public choices was emphasized by his election win.
“The second term appears changed,” said she about his administration. “As he said what he was going to do. We knew what he did for four years. He was transparent. And that’s the option selected.”
Latest Film
Jennifer Lawrence is highlighting her new film, Lynne Ramsay’s project in which she plays a young mom who faces challenges with her emotional state in rural Montana. At a press conference for the project in Venice, Lawrence spoke about Israel’s bombings in Gaza: “It’s frightening. It’s mortifying. What’s taking place is equivalent to a humanitarian crisis and it’s horrible.”
Additional Thoughts
She continued by expressing that she was disheartened by “the lack of civility in the conversations of American politics currently and how that is going to be normalised to the younger generation now. It’s going to be typical to them that politicians lie.”
Lawrence attempted to refocus outrage about the situation to leaders rather than actors and artists. “Stay focused on who is responsible,” she remarked, which was interpreted as a nod to the declaration endorsed by more than 4,000 entertainment industry figures to avoid Israeli film institutions.
Relatable Experiences
The actor, who won an Oscar early in her career for her performance in Silver Linings Playbook, is receiving praise for her performance in the new film. Even though Lynne Ramsay has disputed the narrative being understood as one of postpartum depression and mental illness, Lawrence said that she identified with elements of her character’s journey after the delivery of her new baby, shortly after shooting ended.
“I felt anxiety about my child,” she explained, “just picturing every worst-case scenario, and then second-guessing everything that I was attempting. I was receiving counseling, but I got on a treatment called that medicine and I used it for two weeks and it made a difference.”
Career Moments
Jennifer Lawrence also discussed about the freeing requirement of completing nude scenes in the project while she was expecting and unable to exercise.
“It feels nice,” she commented, regarding the need to abandon insecurities. “Honestly, I do have moments where I’m like, What technically are the differences between me and a prostitute? But it isn’t a major concern.”
